ACCA Paper Exemptions for B.Com / Final-Year Commerce Graduates

B.Com, BBA, M.Com graduates or final-year students may be eligible for up to 9 paper exemptions based on subjects studied and grades. Exemptions usually cover Applied Knowledge papers (BT, MA, FA) and some Applied Skills papers (LW, PM, TX, FR). Strategic Professional papers (SBL, SBR, optionals) cannot be exempted, helping students fast-track their ACCA qualification.

ACCA Exam Levels & Syllabus

Level 1: Applied Knowledge

 

  • BT – Business and Technology: Basics of business, governance, and technology.
  • MA – Management Accounting: Budgeting, costing, and performance analysis.
  • FA – Financial Accounting: Fundamentals of accounting and financial reporting.

Level 2: Applied Skills

 

    • LW – Corporate & Business Law: Legal framework for business operations.
    • PM – Performance Management: Strategic performance measurement and decision-making.
    • TX – Taxation: Principles of personal and corporate taxation.
    • FR – Financial Reporting: Preparation and analysis of financial statements.
    • AA – Audit and Assurance: Audit principles, risk assessment, and reporting.
    • FM – Financial Management: Corporate finance, investment, and risk management.
  • Level 3: Strategic Professional

    Compulsory:

    • SBL – Strategic Business Leader: Leadership, strategy, and professional skills.
    • SBR – Strategic Business Reporting: Advanced financial reporting and compliance.

    Optional (Any 2):

    • AFM – Advanced Financial Management: Corporate finance, investment, and valuation.
    • APM – Advanced Performance Management: Strategic planning and performance evaluation.
    • ATX – Advanced Taxation: Advanced taxation and planning for individuals and companies.
    • AAA – Advanced Audit and Assurance: Complex auditing and ethical compliance.

ACCA Exam Details (Brief)

ACCA exams are divided into three levels:

  • Applied Knowledge: Basic business, finance, and accounting concepts. Objective and scenario-based questions. Duration: 2 hours.
  • Applied Skills: Develops technical and practical accounting skills. Mix of multiple choice, scenario questions, and calculations. Duration: 2–3 hours per paper.
  • Strategic Professional: Focuses on advanced strategic and professional skills for leadership roles. Case study and scenario-based. Duration: ~3 hours per paper.
  • Mostly computer-based (CBE); some Strategic Professional papers may also be paper-based.
  • Results usually released in 6–8 weeks.
  • 4 sessions per year: March, June, September, December
  • Exams can be taken in any order (except where prerequisites apply).
  • Passing mark: 50%

Practical Experience Requirement (PER)

  • 36 months of relevant work experience, documented & signed by supervisor.
  • Must be completed alongside exams for membership.

Becoming an ACCA Member

  • Pass all exams across Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills, and Strategic Professional levels.
  • Complete PER (36 months).
  • Result: Global ACCA membership with career opportunities in audit, finance, consulting, and corporate leadership.
